Professional Therapists Your Future Courses
MCPT develops Therapists / Practitioners to a professional standard, which enables them to work safely and effectively with patients from all walks of life; from top athletes through to people with disabilities.
Massage is most likely one of the oldest forms of healing. It has been used by various cultures in different ways, means and forms, probably from the beginning of time. Massage can simply mean; ‘to knead” or can be further expanded into; ‘the systematic and scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, producing physiological and psychological effects’. |
|
These effects may promote a feeling of well-being and initiate healing by aiding the bodies own internal self regulating processes. Processes that have been shown to continue long after the massage has been completed.
Although massage has been around in one form or another since the beginning of time; as a recognised therapy within modern health-care it is relatively new.
It combines ancient and modern therapy skills with a scientific understanding of how the body functions and dysfunction’s, creating a very versatile method of treatment with wide-ranging benefits.
Certificate Massage Therapy - CMT
In this Course the prime aim is to teach the student the fundementals of relaxation massage.
The purpose of massage is to help alleviate stress and tension that can build up in the body’s soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments).
Relaxation is very important part of rehabalitation and therapy in general. The CMT - Certificate Relaxation Massage (Relaxation) is a pre-requisite to our Accredited Courses.
The CMT Course is a non accredited course that aims to create a massage practitioner with good career potential & foundation of skills that will lead to further study to advanced Courses that lead to professional work. The Certificate Relaxation Massage (Relaxation) training attempts to address issues at a level that will allow you to step into a Government Accredited Course.
CMT – Certificate Relaxation Massage (Relaxation) teaches massage as the basis of a wholistic approach to treatment, incorporating soft tissue techniques and clinical experience.
First Step to Accredited Courses
Although designed to take students up to the entry level required for a Government Accredited Courses, this CMT Course is open to anyone wanting to develop basic hands-on skills in general massage, for use on a recreational level with family and friends.
For those wishing to go on to do a higher level professional training course, this provides an opportunity to get an experience of massage therapy. This CMT Course is mostly “hands on” and students receive a pre-course workbook, and Certificate Massage Therapy - Relaxation (CMT). CMT course is a stepping stone to other Accredited Courses.
In sport the special role in helping, is to enhance performance and prevent injury, by promoting recovery and monitoring the condition of the tissues. As well as the general therapeutic value of massage, it can also safely and effectively treat many minor soft tissue injuries. These are by far the most common of all injuries, which often cause considerable pain and dysfunction in the short term, and may lead to long term problems.
Most injuries in work, sport or play are of an overuse nature and the cause of this over-use needs to be identified and remedied, otherwise the injury is likely to recur. In life itself, painful conditions often result from long term postural and/or occupational stresses, which also need to be identified and altered if possible.

Work Opportunities
Most graduates set up in private practice, working full or part-time. Some people use it as a supplement to their full time jobs and work casually in Relaxation Massage.
Due to the diversity of conditions and situations covered in MCPT courses, students are able to work effectively within many areas of massage therapy. They may specialise in Relaxation Massage in Gymnasiums, Health Spa’s, Beauty Salons, Hotel Resorts, or assisting sports people or work with people from other sectors of the community.
MCPT appropriately qualified therapists work alongside Medical Practitioners, Osteopaths and Physiotherapists within their own networks as well as at sports injury clinics and rehabilitation centres.
PRACTICE
It is vitally important that students practice between the weekends. To encourage this in our other courses, students receive a logbook in which to record practice treatments which also forms part of the course assessment.
Classes
All lectures and practical sessions are conducted by expert tutors from the MCPT and highly qualified teachers from all health, fitness and science fields.
MCPT massage tutors are all working practitioners with well established practices. They have a great depth of practical knowledge on all aspects of their work.
Rather than just being classroom academics who teach it ‘how it should be’ they teach it ‘how it is’. Every student is considered unique, and the aim of the tutor is to encourage the individual to develop his or her own style and skill rather than copy set methods and routines. Classes therefore tend to be friendly and informal, although professional standards are always maintained.
Coursework
This comprises of class and home study based (self-paced study) around written assignments, theory and practical class sessions, student clinical practice, unit quiz’s and video essays.
The minimum of hours study is expected for the student to successfully complete the coursework, includes basic anatomy & physiology. Students who already have an adequate qualification in this subject may not required to complete this, however can apply for exeptions.
