STUDENT CODE OF ETHICS

 

 

1. GENERAL

1.1 MCPT Students & Graduates shall act in a professional manner, uphold and enhance the Honour and Dignity of the MCPT College, Massage and Physical Therapy Profession, and shall act at all times with Honesty, Compassion, Respect and appropriateness in dealing with clients/patients, other health care professionals and the general public.

 

2. AREAS OF COMPETENCE

2.1 MCPT Students & Graduates shall not offer or practice services, therapy or offer remedies for which they are not specifically trained and or suitably qualified. Students are not to work as professionals from any unrelated clinic, home, or mobile service location until graduation.

 

3. CLIENTS/PATIENTS

3.1 MCPT Students & Graduates shall provide adequate information, in terms which are understandable to the client/patient for the service treatment to be given and obtain the client's/patient’s consent before commencing any treatment.

 

3.2 MCPT Students & Graduates shall strictly observe professional confidentiality and the Privacy Act and shall not divulge information derived from clients/patients or from a colleague regarding client/patient to any other person other than the client's/patients referring Doctor/Practitioner and MCPT staff, except with the written authority of that client/patient, and / or MCPT management.

 

3.3 MCPT Students & Graduates shall maintain at all times accurate clinical records.

 

3.4 In their role as a Massage Student Therapist, MCPT Students shall ensure that their professional conduct is above reproach. MCPT Graduates/Students shall not offer or engage in any form of sexual activity as part of being a Professional Massage Therapist – Health Care Practitioner.

 

3.5 MCPT Students & Graduates shall not exploit their clients for sexual, emotional or financial reasons.

 

 

4. OTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

4.1 MCPT Students & Graduates shall acknowledge the legitimate roles of the medical profession and of other paramedical and health care professionals and shall refrain from denigrating them or their legitimate practice and abilities.

 

4.2 MCPT Students & Graduates shall recognise their limitations of their own particular fields of their recently acquired qualification and shall refer clients to and co-operate with other health care professionals when appropriate.

 

4.3 MCPT Students & Graduates shall have regard for advice, treatment or therapy that may be provided to clients by other health care professionals.

 

 

5. TECHNICAL ABILITY

5.1 MCPT Students & Graduates shall maintain a high level of knowledge and skill in the practice of massage and shall continue their professional development and standards of treatments throughout their career.

 

5.2 MCPT Students & Graduates are encouraged to participate in the exchange of professional knowledge between massage therapists.

 

5.3 MCPT Students & Graduates are encouraged to assist and encourage any massage therapist under their direction to advance their knowledge and experience.

 

5.4 MCPT Students & Graduates shall conduct their practice, in accordance with the Health Department Regulations.

Student Clinic Guidelines and Protocol

 

1. Presentation

1.1 Wear black trousers/skirt, white polo top / white t-shirt / white shirt, no logos

2.1 Black shoes, or similar shoes/runners if required for health/posture reasons

 

2. Appearance

2.1 Attend fresh, clean, free of body odour, professionally presented

 

3. Identification Badge

3.1 Wear ID badge at all times – left chest area. Leave your ID in your Student Clinic folder after your session. The Badge ID is not to leave the clinic.

 

4. Client Fee

4.1 All student Clinic Client’s must pay the $15 (one hour relaxation massage session) prior to the commencement of session. Log your appointment and place fee in envelope found in your Student Clinic folder.

 

4.2 No receipts will be issued for Student Clinic sessions. Only fill out Student Clinic Log.

 

5. Client Records

5.1 History sheets are property of the Clinic & College & must not be removed or copied

 

5.2 No Client’s details are to be exchanged with any student at any time

 

5.3 History Form or Clients details are not leave the Clinic

 

6. During Practice

6.1 Student leave the Clinic room door always partly open for supervision, never closed

 

6.2 Towels must be placed on treatment table in a professional manner, the treatment table cleaned all times

 

6.3 Towels must be placed in linen basket, never on the floor

 

6.4 Oils, towels and all other related items are supplied by the MCPT

 

6.5 Excess oil must be wiped using tissues/paper towel and or small hand towels

 

6.6 Towels / draping on Client’s & the privacy  / dignity of Client’s paramount at all times

 

6.7 No sexual references or professional misconduct with any Client, this may cause an ‘immediate expulsion from MCPT studentship’

 

6.8 Lights must be dimmed for comfort and suitable music will be supplied by MCPT

 

6.9 Rooms to be heated / cooled, seek Clinic Manager / Staff assistance

 

6.10 All Clients’ clothing must be off the floor and placed on hooks behind the door or chair, this is an OH & S requirement

 

6.11 Client’s shoes placed neatly under the chair in Clinic Room, avoid tripping over shoes, this is an OH & S requirement

 

7. Reporting to teacher

7.1 Report to designated staff member; teacher, supervisor, Clinic Campus Manager upon arrival and upon leaving at the end of each shift

 

8. Appointments

8.1 Client’s must make appointment via phoning the Clinic

 

8.2 Student can make advance appointments but must phone clinic & place name of Client and contact phone number, this must be placed in the appointment book

 

8.3 Student must arrive 30 min before their first appointment, & 30 minutes end of shift

 

8.4 Student must clean up after every session

 

8.5 Student must report to the clinic staff after leaving Clinic for de-brief

 

8.6 All money for appointment must be given to Clinic staff with log sheet for authorization

 

8.7 The Student will be responsible for any Client Clinic student fee/s lost, and will be replaced if money is lost by student, misplaced or not cared for. Money to be replaced by student

 

9. Answering Phone

9.1 You will be taught how to welcome Client’s and answer the phones, take appointments, etc, for student clinic and professional services.
